Creature
design
Max Kostenko as creature designer played a pivotal role in the early visual development of the feature film "Monster Trucks" for Paramount Pictures. Working under the direction of Chris Wedge (director of Ice Age), Max was tasked with bringing the film's unique central creatures to life, blending biological organic forms with the mechanical world of heavy machinery.
In this collaboration with Paramount, Max Kostenko focused on the ideation of the film's main creature, "Creech." The primary challenge was to design a monster that was simultaneously alien, powerful, and endearing. Max explored various anatomical structures and textures to ensure the creature's movements felt believable when integrated into the chassis of a truck.
cute and creepy
Back to 2014, It was my first film project. I needed to make a creature that was cute but slippery and had a lot of teeth in its mouth. Something in between, an octopus, a walrus and a dolphin. This is exactly what the task was.
